Miracles come about because of obedience.

Hello everyone!

We had exchanges this week and a lot of good things happened this week. We were able to teach a lot of people.
Not yesterday but last Sunday 4 college girls came to church! We were trying to pick up a potential investigator and he invited us to his house for a christian night thing he was having. That is where we met Gina and Allison. Allison called us before Sunday and asked us what time church started and that she was bringing Gina and two other friends. We were like, "Awesome!" The college girls did not come to church again but we were able to have a lesson with two of them during exchanges. Me and my STL taught Gina and Allison at the church building in Fulton. Gina took a religions class last semester and Allison is taking one this semester. They said that their favorite one that they have attended is the Lds church because everyone is so happy. Gina has a friend who is lds and they are both curious to learn more and were both trying to read the book of Mormon together :) We taught them the restoration and it was a very good lesson but we were not able to pick them up as investigators because we were not able to set a return appointment. With school and baseball practices they were not sure when they could meet again... they said that we could try and set something up during the week. Really nice girls! I think they would come again. We will keep trying with them. They wanted to take a selfie after our lesson haha
It is cool to see how God puts people in our path. Our motive was to pick up a potential and his wife but God had something better in store!
Another example is with a guy named Moses. not Moses in the old testament. One day, When I was still with the Mexico sisters, We were at the library filling out a survey that all the missionaries had to do online. I sat down next to a guy named Moses. Moses is like a 30 year old guy who wants to get into the ministry so he is quite religious. While I was taking the survey Sister Furniss was sitting on the couches waiting and she could see that he kept looking at me like he wanted to talk to me. then our phone rang and I answered it and said, "Hello this is Sister Fisher." and when I said that, Sister Furniss said that he looked at me with a really surprised look haha When I got off the phone he started talking to me and asked me, " Excuse me.. Are you a missionary?" I said, "Yes I am for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!" We were talking a little bit and then Sister Furniss came over and started talking to him while I finished the survey (because we have timed computers) We also found out that his sister is lds and he always thought his sister was following this religion blindly.
We were able to meet with him again and he had some questions about Joseph Smith. So we turned to his account in Joseph smith history and read part of the first vision to him. He then asked if he could read it. He was just sitting there reading it for like 5 minutes and we were just watching him haha but it was a cool experience because everything changed after he read it. He was like whoa you read in the bible of how prophets interact with God and it is very similar how Joseph smith is describing it. He told us he is not going to see Mormons as another religion. Something touched him and it was cool to see.
We got to see him again Saturday and we taught him more about prophets and Apostasy. We shared more scriptures with him and he agreed with a lot of it. He says that he is going to go home and really study the things we taught him. We showed him the question in the back of the restoration pamphlet to help him with his studies. I hope he sincerely studies and more importantly asks God if it is true. We are seeing him again next Saturday between conference sessions.
I am really trying to know my scriptures. I put a lot of tabs in my scriptures and I am trying to refer to them more when I teach. I know that the scriptures invite the spirit as we teach and as I study more, the Holy Ghost will bring the right scripture to my remembrance to help the person we are teaching.
Things don't always turn out the way we plan which is really frustrating. But I need to always remember that this is the Lords work. He has a better plan in store. It is God's "work and glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses1:39) It is "[our] work, to keep the commandments, yea, with all [our] might, mind and strength." (D&C11:20)
That is so cool to see miracles come about because of obedience and hard work.
Hope you all have a great week.

Put your heart in the work

Hello!
I did hear about kiara! I have been keeping close contact with her I am so excited for her!!
We had a mission conference this week that Elder Scott Grow from the 70 came to. I love that guy so much! I have noticed that a lot of the general authorities I have met have a really good sense of humor. really funny guys but have very powerful testimonies and are definitely servants of the Lord. But this conference was a punch to the face. He really chastised us and told us that we were not trying hard enough. But then he told us that the Lord chastens those he loves. Our mission needs to put there heart in the work more.
This guy knows his scriptures so well. I want to know the scriptures like he does. He talked a lot about how important the morning studies are and how they lay the foundation for the day. He showed us his scriptures and preach my gospel and how marked up they were.
He made an equation: Spirit + Word = Power
Teaching by the spirit and knowing that word allows a missionary to teach with power! I really want to improve my studies and really know my scriptures well! I love the scriptures. I am reading through the new testament right now. I am in acts and it is actually really interesting

Miracle of the week

Hellllooooo family!!
Things are already amazing this transfer! First I want to say that I love Fulton and I am glad I am staying here for two more transfers.
My new companions name is Sister White. She is from Star Valley Wyoming. She is 19 and has been out for almost a week.

Here is three generations right here! ;) My daughter (Sister White, in red), me and my mom(Sister Hayden in blue) at transfer meeting.
So miracle of the week... I have talked a lot about Devon before in past emails. We were teaching him when I first got here and then he decided that he didn't believe in the church anymore and did a 180 turn. He was really frustrated and we tried everything to help him but his heart was so hard he wouldn't listen. We eventually had to drop him and we didn't hear from him for like three weeks. It was frustrating because I couldn't understand him and I didn't know how to help him so I was praying a lot for him.  Then we were at a members home one night for dinner and the member got a text message from Devon and he said something like, "sorry I haven't been to church in a while, I have been struggling with my faith but something keeps drawing me back to this church" So he came to church that sunday and I talked to him and he said he has been reading and praying a lot and he started college and is saving up for a car... things are doing really well for him. We decided to play it cool with him and just let him figure things out before jumping into teaching him again.
So he has been coming to church every week since and he always comes and says hi to us and he has made a lot of friends with the members. So after give him some time yesterday I finally asked him what his plan was and he told me that he wants to get baptized in October when he gets off parole. He told me that he knows the church is true!.... What desirest thou?? :O
I texted him this morning to set something up with him this week and he sent us this message, "Yea that would be amazing! Thank you very much :) I appreciate everything and all the help that I'm getting on my spiritual progression to Christ."
Is this too good to be true?! I did ask for this. I want to help Devon get to baptism. This church is so true :) I barely did anything, God is the one that is pouring out his blessings.
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 says, "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that plantethany thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase."
I didn't start teaching devon. Missionaries before me planted that seed. I have taken part in the watering and God is the one that gives the increase. I think that is so cool!! We are just part of this big team!! I love being a missionary!! "For weare labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building." (1Cor.3:9)
We are also having something called a mission tour this week. Elder Scott Grow from the 70 will be speaking to us and I am so excited to hear what he has to say to us! :)
Anyways have a great week!
Love you all

poutine

Hello! We got permission to write today because the library was closed on labor day. I hope you guys had fun at the lybberts!
I am no longer in a tri. I am with another sister whose companion finished her mission and will be with her in fulton until tomorrow when I get my new companion.  my new companion will be fresh from the MTC. I won't know who she is until tomorrow. I am not as nervous because I have a better idea of what to expect but I hope it goes well!
This week was good. We had some cool experiences.
I want to make this story as intense as possible because it was intense at the time. We picked up this married couple a couple weeks ago. They are the people i talked about last week that said, ""I don't know if God is trying to tell us something but missionaries just keep coming back!" There is so much more to there story. The LDS church has definitely played a part in there life. They have gotten into anti material in the past and because of it they have hard feelings against joseph smith. I was so excited to teach them again. we planned a great lesson for them and then we went to go see them one night and the man came to the door and said that they didn't want to meet with us anymore and slowly closed the door on us. we were kind of shocked and walked slowly back to the car talking how this just was not right. We paused and sister furniss looks at me and is like, "do you want to go back?" I said yes and we went and knocked on there door again and the guy opened the door again. We asked him what happened and wanted to know if we were still friends and he still didn't give us much of an answer and closed the door on us.
I still didn't feel satisfied. I wanted to talk to the wife. but we were driving away so I decided to give them a call. I put in there number and just stared at the phone and my companions were just looking at me. I said a little prayer and said, "Father, please don't let my fear stop me from doing something that is right." the phone rang....
and the husband answered the phone ._.
I said, "Hello may I talk to Diana please?"
"May I ask who's calling?"
And then I said, "... the sister missionaries??"
Haha I thought he was going to hang up on me but he actually gave the phone to her!
I got to talk to her for a while and she had a lot of concerns but what she brought up wasn't really centered on our church. I feel like she is someone who gets offended easily. I still see hope with these two and sometimes persistence is necessary. It was for these guys. she told me that I should call them again in two weeks when there life is less heated and then go from there. that was better than nothing so I left it at that.
I have never been so determined before. Haha I have been thinking a lot about prayer as well. Ask and you shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you. When president morgan's Councillor came and visited us he talked about D&C 7 with us. John was asked by the Saviour, What desirest thou? The three Nephites were asked the same question and they all had the same desire. They wanted power over death so that they could continue sharing the gospel until the Saviour's second coming.
He told us it is not a selfish thing to ask God that we can be better teachers or for baptisms or other specific things. Those are righteous desires. God wants us to ask. He wants to bless us, all we have to do is ask.
So I have been thinking a lot.. what do I desire?
I told God I want to see Diana and Greg be baptized and I want to see Devon be baptized. And the only way I can do that is if you let me stay in Fulton for 6 months. Transfer calls came and I will be training again which means I will be here for two more transfers. A total of 6 months.
I think that is why I didn't give up on Diana and Greg. I asked God for them and it didn't feel right when they said no.
One of my favorite scriptures in the bible is in Isaiah 55:10-11 God's word "shall not return unto me void, but shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
God's word is Ask and ye shall receive. But that doesn't mean there isn't work involved. As long as it is a righteous desire and I do my best to be obedient and do everything I can, God will do the rest. He will always stick to his word.
I may be crazy but that is what has been in my mind a lot. Sometimes I feel like I just go with the flow of things. I need to take more control. and be a little more persistent at times haha :P
Well have a great week yall!
Love Britt
